A Study on the Vocational High School of Architecture Curriculum in Japan and Indonesia

Abstract

A curriculum is considered the 'heart' of any learning institution which means that schools or universities can't exist without a curriculum. With its importance in formal education, the curriculum has become a dynamic process. In this sense, it is explained that the importance of curriculum development in education is not only for students, teachers and schools but also has another aspect of building a society in general. In the field of architecture, the curriculum has a very important role. Especially in the field of education, the curriculum on the learning system in vocational schools becomes an important benchmark for the sustainability of science education architecture. The Vocational School Curriculum selected in this research is Tobata Technical High School Japan compiled with Vocational High School Nation (SMKN) 5 Bandung. The curriculum of both schools will be presented in this paper by research methods and data collection from surveys, interviews, website information, and literature studies on architecture education curriculum at the vocational high school level. The purpose of this study is to know the advantages and disadvantages of each school curriculum so that it is expected to help the reader in developing a better curriculum in the field of architectural education, especially for vocational schools.
