We report here the first finding of andalusite in pelitic migmatites from the Kerala Khondalite Belt, South India. Pelitic migmatites consist of melanosome (garnet-sillimanite-biotite gneiss) and leucosome which contain the andalusite. Corundum, which is in direct contact with quartz, also occurs nearby andalusite. Andalusite might have formed from partial melts during the cooling stage.
