Analysis of gem corundum containing beryllium using LA-ICP-MS

Abstract

When beryllium diffusion corundum became apparent, the presence of beryllium in corundum indicated it was beryllium diffusion corundum. But in recent studies, trace amounts of natural beryllium are sometimes detected in untreated corundum. In this study, we used LA-ICP-MS to analyze more than 1000 corundum submitted to CGL in 2012 and report and discuss the present situation of beryllium diffusion corundum and untreated corundum detected trace amount of natural beryllium.
