Distribution and texture of garnet grains in the Sanbagawa metamorphic rocks in the Nagatoro district, Kanto Mountains, central-east Japan, were re-examined to show that it is inappropriate to interpret them to have formed by a sinple progressive metamorphism. The result of the Raman microspectrometry of carbonaceous material indicates the temperature index may have been overwritten afterwards.
