Abstract
The Third Higher school was established in 1894 as an old-education-system high school. "Third Higher School mineral collection" is presently stored in the Kyoto University Museum. The collection contains 3163 specimens (260 species), of which 496 specimens (194 species) were purchased from Krantz company. They were collected from Meiji to Taisho era for education. Prof. Seishiro Matsushima made effort to collect, and Prof. Tadasu Hiki had a role in the collection. The collection contributed to the development of study and education at the dawn of mineralogy of Japan.
