By combining Fe Kα XANES analysis, 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy, and EPMA analysis of cronstedtite, we were able to transform the Fe3+/Fe2+ area intensity ratios to the Fe3+/Fe2+ atomic ratios for serpentine-group minerals (Fe-rich serpentine and cronstedtite). By using this relationship, we applied Fe Kα XANES analysis of serpentine-group minerals in 11 CM chondrites. There is a weak positive correlation between Fe*/(Mg+Fe*) ratios and Fe3+/ΣFe atomic ratios if we use the average values of these ratios for each meteorite.
