The cause of backarc magmatism such as the volcanic groups near the border of North Korea and China, west of the Japanese archipelago is still controversial. A possibility for the magmatism is a mantle plume derived from lower mantle. The other is the magmatism related to dehydration of slab. In order to clarify the cause, we measured isotopic compositions of noble gases extracted from inclusions (mainly melt inclusions) in mantle xenoliths collected from volcanoes in northeastern China.
