Ultra-high pressure synthesis of nano-polycrystalline high-pressure minerals and their optical properties

Abstract

We have been working on the synthesis of sintered bodies of various nano-polycrystalline high-pressure minerals by a ultra-high pressure direct conversion method using Kawai-type multianvil apparatus. These include diamond, stishovite, various kinds of garnet, jadeite, etc. Here I review the synthesis conditions, formation mechanism and some optical properties of such nano-polycrystalline minerals so far obtained in my laboratory.
