Abstract
Today Japan is a country with the world longest life expectancy of 80 years, and expects to become an extremely "aged society" in which about a quater of the people are aged. In order to make the aged society of the coming 21st century a society where everyone is healthy, has something to live for and is able to live with assurance, Japan will have to urgently develop the infrastructure especially in the field of health care and welfare services for the aged during the last decade of the 20th century when Japan will rapidly become an aged society as today's northern European countries. This report deals with policies of national and local governments for aged society in Japan by political sciences and public administration's point of view.
