Abstract
Aiming at self-care support of diabetes, we have developed a system which supports patient's self-care interactively by using cellular phone and also supports doctors, on the Web, in medical examination and clinical management of patients. In addition to diabetes, this system supports self-care of other lifestyle diseases with the generality, and enables medical institutions have patient data in common. A patient sends a daily blood glucose level and the weight, etc. to a server from a cellular phone, and the server analyses accumulated data to show it visually with graphs. Furthermore, the server sends an alert mail if it catches insufficient control situation in blood glucose level. Security of patient data is protected by using FeliCa functionality of patient cellular phone.
A field trial of this system was performed in a medical institution to verify its usability and effectiveness. Verification of the detection algorithm of control abnormality was also performed. As a result, it was confirmed that a goal of the system is achieved as a whole. However, owing to the use of cellular phone as well as FeliCa functionality, many clients refused experimental cooperation. This was left as a subject of further study.
