This paper aims to discuss the opportunity and challenges of the foreign labor market for Nepalese workers
and Nepal’s government policy. The study was carried out in the form of a qualitative research method,
where secondary data were used. The collected data were analyzed using the content analysis method after a
close reading of the sources.
This paper discussed the current situation of government policy, manpower agencies, problems of migrant
workers, and the way of using the remittance. This research found that the government policy is less
effective, and manpower agencies are not following the government rules and regulations.
Since the last two decades, remittances have been a significant contributor to the Nepalese economy.
Many scholars argued that remittance helps to reduce the country’s poverty rates. However, Nepalese
workers face numerous problems in the home country and destination countries. Migrant workers are being
charged high service charges and misguided by the local agent and manpower agencies in the home country
Nepal. They face problems in destination countries such as low remuneration, sexual abuse, and risky job
environment. Most of the remittances are using daily expenses such as purchasing foods. This paper explores
these vulnerabilities of migrant workers and suggests stakeholder interventions to make safer migration and
sustainably use a remittance.
