The life of a disaster victim is affected by the scale of the disaster. The deep vein thrombosis (DVT) medical examination is important for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention from the aspect of secondary disaster prevention. Its procedure at disaster sites is different from a clinical-setting procedure, but performing DVT medical examination as a screening method by leg echocardiography, which does not burden a patient, is effective. Kumamoto earthquake gave us a check-up result of the DVT medical examination beyond 3,500 people. A risk factor for DVT is also indicated, and it is desirable that a leg echocardiography will be utilized from now on. The necessity of DVT medical examination is determined by the life environment including that in a vehicle. It is desirable to reduce the risk factor by improving the shelter environment, which leads to the reduction in the severity of VTE in a patient without performing DVT medical examination.
