Examination of the Learning Effect of Patient Teaching used Role-Play among Students

Abstract

　The purpose of this study was to examine the learning effect of patient teaching used role-play among students. Samples were 80 students of the second-year class in Nursing College, Wakayama Medical University. These data got from the analysis of reports written by students before and after role-play. These contents of reports were classified into six categories. Three of six categories before role-play were named <teaching knowledge about diabetes> and <self-care method of insulin injection> and <assistto mental health>. Other three categories after role-play were named <importanceof the method of concrete explanation>, <preparationand attitude of nurse> and <assist to daily life after discharge>. Findings indicated that students have learned the necessity of preparation for patient teaching imaged their daily life and the necessity of soft situation what patient can comfortably question.
