This qualitative study analyzed viewpoints of practicum clinical instructors and nursing teachers regarding development of teaching materials and the factors affecting them by presenting scenes from mursing practice on video and asking how they would respond on such occasions. Six categories for recognition of phenomena, such as “attitude of students” and “techniques of students”, and 5 categories for miscellaneous measures were extracted. It was found that both clinical instructors and nursing teachers attached importance to “independent behaviors of students”. Seven categories, such as “the relationship between patients and nurses”, “understanding subjects”, and “growth based on self-awareness”, were extracted for those which could be learned from the scenes, while 8 categories, such as “human relationship skills based on understanding patients”, “growth based on self-awareness”, “development of own nursing viewpoint”, and “acquisition of problem-solving abilities”, were extracted for those which are hoped to be acquired in actual practice. Regarding the development of teaching materials, it was revealed that practicum clinical instructors focused on the relationship between patients and nurses, while nursing teachers forcused on promoting growth based on nursing practice, including problem-solving thinking. It was therefore suggested that it would be effective to establish a cooperative instruction system which utilizes the difference between the viewpoints of these two groups.
