〔Objective〕The aim of this study was to clarify the actual situation of nursing practicum evaluations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
〔Method〕We conducted an online survey of faculty members at nursing universities.
〔Results〕Responses were received from 95 university faculty members(response rate: 15.9%). About 70% of the respondents recognized that the evaluation items and criteria were appropriate, the timing of the overall evaluation was suitable, and that they were able to evaluate their practicum programs in accordance with changes in the training format. However, in the group of 43 respondents(82.7%)who had set hard-to-reach practicum goals, 21(75.0%)had difficulty evaluating those goals(p<.01). Two categories were extracted from the descriptions elaborating on the difficulties encountered: “Evaluation of practical skills” and “Fair and reasonable evaluation.”
〔Conclusions〕It was suggested that there were issues in the evaluation of practical skills and fair and appropriate evaluation for the various types of practicum programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that it is important to set alternative training objectives in preparation for emergencies and to explore appropriate ways of evaluation based on actual situations.
