Purpose:This study aims to determine the difficulty experienced by the preceptor of a new graduate visiting nurse and consider supports for preceptor.
Methods:In this qualitative descriptive study, we conducted a semi-structured interview on three visiting nurses who experienced the preceptor of a new graduate visiting nurse. We extracted and categorized the difficulty contents discussed in the interview.
Results:difficulties of the visiting nursing preceptor had 8 categories and two core categories. Core category 1〈There is no help from co-workers, and I have no choice but to manage myself〉. Core category 2〈The goal and method of training are unclear, and I don’t know what to do〉.
Conclusions:While feeling lonely, the preceptor was struggling for solitary conflict because of inability to seek co-operation from managers and colleagues. In addition, the preceptor fumbled while outlining the role of the preceptor because the goal and method of training were unclear. Thus, the visiting nursing office should aim for each preceptor and preceptee to continue the establishment by devising respective human resource development plans and the proper support by managers and colleagues.
