Aim: This study aimed to develop a scale for nurses’ attitudes towards health and work, and to investigate its reliability and validity.
Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted on 1,874 nurses working in a hospital with more than 500 general beds. Item and factor analyses were conducted on a 46-item scale. Reliability and validity were confirmed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, and criterion-related and construct validity, respectively.
Results: Responses were obtained from 811 nurses (collection rate, 43.9%), and finally, 796 nurses were included in the main research (valid response rate, 43.1%). An exploratory factor analysis yielded a five-factor, 22-item structure. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients was 0.91 for the overall scale and 0.72 to 0.86 for the subscales, confirming internal consistency. Criterion-related validity was confirmed for the “Organizational Climate Scale” (r = 0.309), the “Helping Norms Awareness Scale” (r = 0.226), and the “Professional Identity Scale for Nurses” (r = –0.258).The goodness of fit index of the model was confirmed with GFI = 0.9, AGFI = 0.872, CFI = 0.908, and RMSEA = 0.068.
Conclusions: This study’s results suggest that the22-item with a five-factor structure scale’s validity and reliability were within the permissible range.
