Abstract

We developed a scenario for situation-based training of novice homecare nurses based on the theme of managing elderly homecare patients with fever. The learning objectives were to achieve the following: (1) the ability to collect necessary information for assessment, (2) the ability to assess the patient’s physical condition using that information, and (3) the ability to decide on the appropriate response based on the results of the assessment. The simulation involved visiting the home of an elderly patient who was bedridden and was receiving homecare from their daughter. The nursing tasks included providing nursing care in this context. The goal of the simulation was to collect information to assess the patient’s physical condition. Learners were expected to perform physical examinations of the patient and assess their respiratory status, which involved interviewing the caregiver. Two debriefing sessions were conducted to achieve the learning objectives. Alpha and beta tests were conducted to refine the scenarios.
