Abstract
Separated flow past a rotating circular cylinder has been investigated by the flow visualization and the ultrasonic Doppler method. Experiments were conducted to investigate the cases in which the velocity ratio of the cylinder's skin to the uniform stream was varied from 0 to 3 over a Reynolds-number range of 145-800. Wake patterns are divided into two main categories in terms of the velocity ratio; (i) regular vortex street and (ii) sheet-like structure. Visual observations indicate that there exists a transitional pattern between two flow regimes and a spanwise periodic structure plays an important role.
