Numerical simulation of compressible flows using the free-molecular-type kinetic scheme

Abstract

The free-molecular-type kinetic scheme is a new lattice Boltzmann model which can simulate supersonic flows described the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. We improve this scheme applying median filter, which is a one of the image processing filters, to reduce numerical oscillations. Numerical results agree well with the corresponding theories and other numerical methods and show that this scheme can capture shock waves sharply various shock capturing methods.
