Abstract
Through longitudinal practice of rhythm dance and modern rhythm dance by a broad range of age groups from young children to senior citizens, the purpose of our research was to show the characteristics of rhythm dance and modern rhythm dance as well as to provide material useful for future instruction. The material concerns; 1) drawing up a plan of instruction of rhythm dance and modern rhythm dance for age groups from preschoolers to adults and its execution, 2) interpreting post-research changes in the subjects' attitudes and behaviors, and 3) longitudinal instruction of rhythm dance and modern rhythm dance.
The results of our research suggest that the characteristics of rhythm dance and modern rhythm dance are integrated in “the pleasure of dancing to the rhythm” and “the pleasure of dancing with others sharing the same rhythm”, and that rhythm dance and modern rhythm dance can foster a lifetime love of dance and the power to create new types of dance while preserving the pleasurable feelings inherent in dance.
