Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the crisis situation during the transition period from critical to post critical period with schizophrenic patients, and identify the nursing care needed during the transition period. Five cases (2 succeeded for transition, 3 failed) of schizophrenic patients who were in the transition period were examined. The finding are as follows: 1. Nurses should avoid making any drastic environmental change such as physical and interpersonal around the patient. It is because the strong inside ego protection is not formed in patient who are in the transition period, and they are highly vulnerable to these environmental changes. 2. The results suggest that it takes time for patients who are in the transitional period to form the strong ego in them. Therefore, it is reasonable to think that nurses should hold any active care during this period of time and wait until the ego protection is formed in patients. The results also suggest that nursing care for schizophrenic patients who are in the remission process should be focused on clarifying the patients' critical situations.
