Abstract
Unlike the application of X-ray computed tomography (X-CT) in the industry, purpose of using X-CT data in the scientific ocean drilling expeditions varies from checking of operational data quality and screening wholeround core in terms of quality and importance in structural geology, the quantitative estimation of physical proper ties (e.g. porosity and density) to the core description - interpretation and core-log-seismic integration.
The long journey of using valuable X-CT data in scientific ocean drilling is summarized from few examples used as post-cruise research in the 90s to the routine use at well-site right after core is on the rig floor in the last five years.
