In the context of global climate action, service companies also play a pivotal role in supporting the decarbonization of the energy industry. They are uniquely positioned to drive the transition toward carbon neutrality by offering technological innovations, enhancing operational efficiencies, and facilitating partnerships across the sector. These companies contribute not only through the development of advanced technologies such as low-carbon field services and carbon capture and storage(CCS)but also by integrating digital technologies to optimize energy operations. Their contributions extend to workforce development, ensuring that energy professionals are equipped with the skills needed for a decarbonized future. This paper uses SLB(formerly Schlumberger)as a case study to illustrate how the service company is navigating this transition. SLB has set an ambitious target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, encompassing direct, indirect, and supply chain emissions. Its strategic approach includes the development of the Transition Technologies portfolio, designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from oil and gas operations. The company is also expanding its efforts into new energy sectors, including hydrogen production and geothermal energy, and has engaged in digital transformation initiatives to further optimize industrial operations. This paper highlights the broader implications of these efforts for the energy sector as a whole, positioning service companies as one of the key enablers in the global shift towards a low-carbon future.
