Abstract
This paper shows content of questionnaire on “UMI NO INOCHI” (Wahei Tatematsu) and its effectiveness, through questioning students about the validity of new interpretations as an alternative to the standard interpretation of the work. The questionnaire is carried out to 36 high school students.QuestionnaireⅠand Ⅱ are composed focusing on interpretation of “father, here you are” in the climax part of the story which is related to overall interpretation, and ask students following points. (1) Whether first reading declines to the standard partial interpretation (the fish Khue=the father of the main character Taichi) in questionnaireⅠ. (2) Whether students think that the partial interpretation is impertinent and new another interpretation (the fish Khue≠the father of Taichi) is pertinent in questionnaireⅡ. (3) Whether students determine the validity of new interpretations of other three parts of the story and new overall interpretation in questionnaireⅡ. As a result, 13 students (36%) alter the standard interpretations to new interpretations, and the alteration is inadequately in 23 students (64%). Here this paper gains the prospect of being able to introduce new interpretations into the lessons on “UMI NO INOCHI”.
