Abstract
Although many studies on the health effects of ultrafine particles (UFP) have been reported, it has been pointed out that sufficient knowledge has not been obtained, especially in epidemiological studies. In this survey, we organized previously published papers focusing on exposure assessment methods and health effects, and investigated research trends with the aim of extracting materials for considering what kind of UFP epidemiological research design will be required in the future. Epidemiological studies have been the focus of attention in UFP health effects research, and exposure assessment in epidemiological studies using the Land Use Regression (LUR) model is increasing, and is expected to remain an important exposure assessment method in the future. The most important health outcomes were cardiovascular and respiratory. However, effects on the brain and central nervous system are also gaining attention.
