This study aimed to design and implement a training program to enhance balance ability using a balance ball for individuals with visual impairments and to examine the effects of the program on psychological and balance ability. Eight individuals with visual impairments working at a job support facility were trained twice a week for about 10 minutes each time for 8 weeks. Changes in mood and balance ability were measured before and after each training session and the program, respectively. The effects of training and the content of the program were evaluated using semi-structured interviews. There was a significant increase in comfort level after training (p < .001), concerning mood changes. Moreover, there was a significant improvement in reach distance in the functional reach test (p < .05) and a report of fewer stumbles in everyday life, with regard to balance ability. The conclusions of this study suggest that the balance training designed in this study for individuals with visual impairments is effective from both psychological and balance ability perspectives.
