Abstract
This study aimed to identify the factor structure of two questionnaires : the Japanese version of the Attitudes to Sexuality Questionnaire (for individuals with Intellectual Disability : ASQ–ID) and the Japanese version of the Attitudes to Sexuality Questionnaire (for individuals from the General Population : ASQ–GP) , which are composed of items from the ASQ-ID and ASQ-GP developed by Cuskelly and Guilmore (2007) , along with some additional questions. This study also aimed to examine the construct validity and reliability of the two Japanese instruments. A web-based survey was conducted with people from the general community, with 257 valid responses obtained (of which 129 questionnaires used “ ”women or “girls” as the subject in the items and 128 used “ ”men or “boys”). Through an exploratory factor analysis, three factors were extracted for each instrument. The factors for Japanese ASQ-ID were labeled “Control and regulation of sexuality,” “Sexual rights,” and “Life with a partner and parenting.” For the Japanese ASQ-GP, the extracted factors were labeled “Sexual rights,” “Sexual pleasure,” and “Control and regulation of sexuality.” Though the Japanese ASQ-ID and Japanese ASQ-GP showed different factors from those of the instruments developed by Cuskelly and Guilmore(2007) , possibly because of additional items and different family norms in Japan, this study confirmed their construct validity and reliability.
