Abstract

This research discusses the politics of remembrance and transference of disasters, using research on the remembrance and transference of war as the basis for this study, focusing on facilities for the transmission of disaster legacies as the space of Remembrance. The space of remembrance in disasters begins with the "Nobi Shinsai Kinendou" (Nobi Earthquake) and the "Fukko Kinenkan" (Great Kanto Earthquake. These institutions have tended to focus on the objectives of disaster prevention and mitigation, and the collection and management of memory media by the government, rather than acknowledging and respecting the diversity of memory and the difficulties of cross-understanding. Counter-movements towards collection and control have been limited. Given the long history of resistance to the collection and control of memory in the remembrance and transference of war, there is still not enough attention to the politics of remembrance and transference in the case of disasters. Therefore, in the remembrance and inheritance of disasters, more than at present, there is a need to respect the diversity of memory and consider the possibilities of its transference.
