Abstract

To survive a disaster, the education on the information technology (IT) and the related science and technology is a key as one of the disaster preventive activities. For forming the rescue communication infrastructure, an airborne ad hoc wireless LAN and its power supply system have been developed and demonstrated, using a helicopter and power-driven mowers. Using this network system, a rescue drill has been conducted for residents and school students in the remote region, where will be a potential area of any disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons, and resulting in no communication network. Through the rescue drill, it was revealed that the IT and science educations were one of the infrastructures for preventing disasters in the remote region. The daily educations including skill learning were a key for success in both normal and emergency cases, and resulting in the revitalization for the local area.
