In order for companies to maintain sustainable competitive advantage in the digital age, they are increasingly focusing on ecosystems in which they create value not only by themselves but also in collaboration with various players across industries. In this paper, we show that when existing products become ecosystems, the platform function that makes the product itself into a medium intervenes in their formation. Through this analysis, in which many outside companies began to participate in value creation, created value while mediating between various users by turning the game content itself into a media platform.
