We investigated the antihyperlipidemic effect of clinofibrate by using the HPLC Method. Changes of HPLC lipoprotein pattern were studied before and after clinofibrate administration of 1, 200mg/ day for three months in 13 hyper lipidemic patients with serum total cholesterol (TC)>220mg/dl or triglyceride (TG)>200mg/dl.
Serum TC and TG levels significantly decreased, while no significant changes were observed in serum HDL cholesterol levels.
Patients with type IIb and IV hyper lipidemia showed a decrease of VLDL fruction without an increase of free glycerol and LDL fruction. The result suggests that the decrease of VLDL fruction may not be due to the increase of VLDL catabolism by lipoprotein lipase.
Patients with type ha hyper lipidemia showed a decrease in LDL cholesterol. The result domonstrates the direct action of clinofibrate on LDL.
