This paper presents the vertical structure of the strong winds due to typhoons at mountainous areas in Shikoku district. The wind direction, wind profile, turbulence intensity, gust factor and speed-up ratio have been investigated. The main conclusions were as follows:
1) The power-law exponents of the vertical profile of mean wind speed on the ridge over the mountains were about one half to one fifth smaller than that of practical loading codes for the flat terrains.
2) The modified power-law exponents of wind profiles obtained by removing the speed-up components from the measured wind speed in accordance with the method by Lemelin et al were coincident with those for approaching flow. However, some exponents at some particular site located at the saddle point of a ridge were still too small compared with the ordinary value due to horizontal wind convergence.
