Abstract
Liposuctioned autologous fat was injected into the larynx and hypopharynx of patients with voice disorder and aspiration after vagal nerve paralysis. Lipoinjection was performed using a endolaryngeal microsurgical technique under general anesthesia. Injected areas were the vocal fold, false vocal fold, aryepiglottic fold of the larynx, and the medial wall of the piriform sinus of the hypopharynx. Lipoinjection to the soft tissue above the superolateral portion of the oblong fovea of the arytenoid cartilage made arytenoid adduction possible, and consequently enabled laryngeal closure. Lipoinjection into the piriform sinus of the hypopharynx lowered its capacity, and consequently its residual food was reduced and the pharyngeal clearance on the affected side was improved. Glottal incompetence and aspiration also improved after this operation.
