A Case of Severe Tracheal Stenosis Due to Basedow's Disease and Scar after Tracheostomy

Abstract

A case of severe tracheal stenosis due to Basedow's disease and scar after tracheostomy was reported. The patient was a 19-year-old male. He had undergone tracheostomy due to a traffic accident. He was later diagnosed with Basedow's disease after operation.
After recovering, he visited our hospital with a complaint of dyspnea. A CT scan revealed swelling of the thyroid lobe bilaterally and neck tracheal stenosis. We diagnosed neck tracheal stenosis due to the bilateral swelling of the thyroid lobe due to Basedow's disease and performed a thyroidectomy. The tracheostenosis was a scar tissue formation. Therefore, we performed tracheostomy.
After the operation, we inserted a T-tube, and the patient was discharged from our hospital with the inserted T-tube 2 months after the operation. We closed the tracheostoma 4 months after the operation. A follow-up 37 months after the last operation showed no evidence of stenosis.
