We experienced a case of cartilaginous tumor of the larynx which is very rare, as only one case of osteochondroma arising from the larynx has previously been reported.
A 69-year-old female visited our hospital with chief complaints of cough and dyspnea while at work. On examination, a tumor was found in the posterior part of the subglottic area. Bilateral vocal cord movement was normal. Computed tomography scan showed that more than half of the cricoid lamina was occupied by the tumor. After tracheotomy, biopsy was performed under laryngoscopy. The diagnosis was a benign osteochondroma. Considering the benign characteristic of the tumor as well as postoperative laryngeal function, a subtotal removal of the protruding mass lesion was performed. The postoperative course of the patient has been uneventful without any evidence of subglottic lesion one year after the operation.
