Abstract

This paper discusses the effects of listening to ultrasonic sounds with 1/f fluctuation for the autonomic nervous system. First of all, one piece of ultrasonic sound with 1/f fluctuation based on the sinusoidal wave (frequency: 40kHz) is prepared. And two pieces of ultrasonic sounds with no 1/f fluctuation are also prepared. Next, the experiment employed 13 healthy subjects, LF/HF values of the subjects when they listen to these sounds are recorded. Under the condition as mentioned above, effects of listening to these sounds for the autonomic nervous system are examined. The experiment results show that the variation of LF/HF values when the subjects listen to ultrasonic sound with 1/f fluctuation is larger than the variation of LF/HF values when the subjects listen to ultrasonic sounds with no 1/f fluctuation. This fact suggests that 1/f fluctuation can control the autonomic nervous system of the subjects. Therefore, this study discovered unique effect of 1/f fluctuation for the autonomic nervous system.
