Morbidities of metacarpal bone atrophy were compared between patients with vibration disorder and control subjects, 77 male patients with vibration disorder and age-matched 28 male control patients (mean age, 54.0 and 55.7 years, respectively) were studied. The bone mineral density was assessed by Inoue's microdensitometry scanning method at a right second meatcarpal bone. As compared with two groups, the medular bone density and cortical bone density were significantly higher in patients with vibration disorder. The morbidities of metacarpal bone atrophy was significantly lower in patients with vibration disorder (2.7%) than control subjects (14.3%).
