Abstract
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of dialysis on midterm results after treatment of aortic diseases. Methods: Between May 2007 and April 2013, 20 consecutive patients underwent endovascular aortic repair (n=14) and graft replacement (n=6). Of them, 7 patients required emergency procedures due to rupture (n=5) or acute type A aortic dissection (n=2). Results: There were four early deaths. Survival rates at 1 and 3 years were 64% ± 11% and 43% ± 12%, respectively. One patient died of adverse aorta-related events. Freedom from late aortic events at 1, 2, and 3 years were 46% ± 13%, 30% ±14%, and 20% ± 12%, respectively. Late aortic events (n=9) included six new diseases and two endoleaks. Conclusions: Late aortic events occurred in nearly half of dialysis patients undergoing aortic repair. Thus close follow-up surveillance is needed.
