A popliteal venous aneurysm is a relatively rare condition that can cause pulmonary embolism. Considering that anticoagulation therapy alone is insufficient to prevent pulmonary embolism, surgical treatment is recommended. This study aimed to investigate the case of a 73-year-old female patient admitted to our hospital by ambulance due to syncope. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed bilateral pulmonary embolism and a venous aneurysm in the right popliteal vein. After the improvement of pulmonary embolism with anticoagulation therapy, aneurysmectomy and venorrhaphy were performed for the venous aneurysm. Moreover, 2-years after surgery, no recurrence has been observed.
