Abstract
By making use of information entropy, a new evaluation index of the mixing state of a local region in a mixing vessel in the case of multi-component mixing is presented. The newly defined index is more general than the old multi-component mixedness and has clear theoretical relationships with other mixing evaluation indices and separation evaluation indices which has been presented. Further, the usefulness of the newly defined index is clarified by application to an imaginary mixing situation which satisfies suitable conditions.
