Abstract
Oscillatory zoning is a kind of spontaneous pattern with micrometer scale formed in a particle. Many studies were performed in the field of geoscience in which several weeks were required for the pattern formation. In this study, the drastic reduction of the pattern forming period was realized, so that the pattern forming dynamics may be applicable to particle processing technology. The repetition of the ion supply and the subsequent ripening enable to form the pattern less than several hours. The chemical composition in the cross section of a particle varied oscillatory with the spatial period of 102 nm-101 µm. This fine chemical structure was generated spontaneously without hazardous chemicals such as organic solvent and surfactant. The spatial periodicity and the compositional amplitude were controlled by the periods of the ion supply and the subsequent ripening, respectively.
