For the design calculation of crossflow dry-cooling towers, it is important to know the net amount of heat transfer. The usual assumption is that the flow is uniform through the tower, particularly the tube side. In this study, when one of the fluids is maldistributed, the effect of maldistribution on heat transfer rates is investigated and when the same heat arrival factor as that obtained by uniform flow is required for the case of maldistributed flow under the same operating conditions, the deviation in the overall conductance between the two cases is discussed under the conditions in which the maximum maldistribution effect occurs.
