Abstract
A microbial growth model for a sequence of biochemical reactions is proposed here, taking inhibitors into account. Parameters of the model are estimated in light of the experimental data on batch cultivation of a respiration-deficient mutant of bakers'' yeast. Substituting these parameters into the model, a continuous culture, i.e., the transient behavior of the yeast cell growth before attaining steady state has been analyzed. The calculations attempted so far with respect to batch and continuous cultures have been justified by experimentation.
Starting from the model proposed herein, a feedforward control has been studied to meet with variations expected of the microbial growth in continuous cultures operated inherently with long residence time in a flowing medium.
