The formation, microstructure and properties of MoSi2/SiC ceramic composites derived from polymer pyrolysis were investigated. Polymethylsiloxane was mixed with Si, SiC and MoSi2 as filler and pyrolyzed in N2 atmosphere at 1100∼1400°C. The microstructure of the composite obtained was composed of MoSi2, SiC and silicon oxycarbide glass matrix derived from polymer. These phases were stable up to 1400°C. A thermal expansion coefficient of 5∼7×10-6/°C and electrical resistivity of 0.9×10-2 Ω•cm at room temperature were obtained. The MoSi2/SiC composite is considered as one of the candidates for the heating element material.
