Clear cell meningioma (CCM) is a rare type of meningioma. We report a case of CCM presenting with intracranial metastasis treated operatively and by gamma knife radiosurgery.
A 65-year-old man was referred to our department with a right falx meningioma. The first operation was done and the tumor was completely removed. Postoperatively, 60Gy extended focal radiation was performed. Sixteen months after the first operation, MRI revealed recurrence of the tumors. Gamma knife radiosurgery for the three lesions was performed twice, but two of the lesions were uncontrolled. We performed a second operation for the two uncontrolled lesions. After the second operation, those two lesions were brought under control without recurrence.
The evidence regarding gamma knife radiosurgery for the treatment of CCM is insufficient. CCM could be controlled if the tumor has a smaller volume or a higher dose of radiotherapy is given. However, more cases need to be studied in the future.
