Abstract
An 82-year-old man visited a local clinic because of abdominal pain. A tumor of the right lower quadrant was found, so he was referred to our hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tumor markers CEA and CA19-9 were elevated in serum.Colonoscopy revealed a type-2 tumor of the ascending colon, but pathological analysis of a biopsy sample was not undertaken because the patient was taking an antiplatelet drug. Computed tomography(CT) and barium enema examination revealed an ascending colon tumor, and also revealed that the sigmoid and descending colon were located in the right back side of the ascending colon. Under the tentative diagnosis of ascending colon cancer complicated with malrotation of intestine, right-sided sigmoid and descending colon, the patient underwent right hemicolectomy. The histological diagnosis was a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma in the ascending colon. The final diagnosis was pSE, pN2, pM0, fStageIIIb. We report this rare case of ascending colon cancer complicated by abnormal fixation of the sigmoid and descending colon.
