A case of mesenteric panniculitis on the sigmoid-colon was reported.
A 51-year-old man who was operated for descending colon cancer two years ago. Curative resection was performed. Postoperatively, he was admitted with complaint of tenesmus. Barium enema and sigmoidoscopy revealed a stenotic area of 15 cm in length in the sigmoid colon. At laparotomy, the mesentery of the sigmoid colon was markedly thickened and sigmoidectomy was performed. Histologically, degeneration and necrosis of fat cells were seen. Me-senteric panniculitis was confirmed.
The patient is doing well two months after the surgery.
