Abstract

It has been confirmed that corrosion inhibition mechanisms of various inhibitors are closely related to the hard and soft acids and bases principle (HSAB principle). The inhibition mechanisms of cationic and anionic precipitation inhibitors in aerated neutral solutions are discussed based on the HSAB principle in this review. Cooperative inhibition of cationic and anionic inhibitors is also described. The effect of ligand field on the corrosion inhibition is discussed on the basis of the principle.
