Our research group investigated polarization curves and corrosion mass losses of a carbon steel immersed in deaerated 45 mass% LiBr solutions containing LiOH and Li2MoO4 at 393 K. A corrosion potential was initially about -0.8 V for 50~250 ks and then rapidly shifted in a range from -0.45 to -0.2 V regardless of the Li2MoO4 concentration. An oxide film consisting mainly of Fe3O4 was formed on the carbon steel whose corrosion potential shifted up. It was inferred that the corrosion mass loss increased at a constant rate while the corrosion potential showed -0.8 V was maintained, and that the corrosion rate after the potential became noble was negligibly small.
